DC Fashion Week Brings Diversity to New World Order of Fashion

Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 22, 2007 -- DCFashionWeek ("DCFW") enthusiastically embraces diversity in its week-long series of shows, including such participating countries such as Kazakhstan, Argentina, South Africa, Botswana, Peru, Ghana, Ethiopia and the United States. "I read so many articles that noted the marked absence of Asian, Hispanic or black models or designers in other leading fashion shows,' remarked DCFW founder, Ean Williams. "Instead of complaining, I established my own modeling and design production company to redress the imbalance and have focused on the solution by engaging designers and models from every racial group and country interested in participating in DCFW."

As a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that co-ordinates and encourages the development of American fashion through shows and other events, DCFW also undertakes national campaigns to recruit the best design talent in the District of Columbia and Mid-Atlantic Region, whether they have formal design education or are creatively gifted, yet undiscovered. DCFW VII showcases the fashion industry in the District of Columbia area and includes a wide range of domestic and international fashion trade professionals including buyers, sourcing agents, merchandisers, exporters, and high-end retailers. The invitees will also include sponsors and organizers' guests, as well as potential consumers of the designers. DC Fashion Week debuts its seventh iteration with a growing list of supporters including AARP, Avanni Ribbon, Braun Film & Video, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas, Glaceau Smartwater, Smoothjazz 105.9, Verdette, the Embassy of Kazakhstan and the H Street Festival.

DCFW continues to educate college students while engaging the media with its September 24 special presentation to the members of the National Press Club. Attending the program are fashion, merchandising and design students from Fairfax County schools, Marymount University, and The Temple, (a Paul Mitchell Partner School). "As an education-based not for profit charitable organization, we have a clear emphasis on the next generation of emerging designers and fashion industry professionals," says director, Ean Williams.

DCFW continues to display fresh talent with the participation of designers from around the world. The designers presenting include: Alek Risimnic Couture, Artizan Sarai, Corjor International, Studio D-Maxsi, Kustom Looks, L-Shandi, Samira Atash, Sophia Ali, Suutra, SYMBAT, and YOSOY FASHION. Previous fashion weeks have featured collections from Israel, Moldova, Brazil, New Zealand, and Australia. At the International Ethical Fashion Show, Priyah Patel, will speak on the subject of fair trade and the role of fashion as eco-friendly in the face of global climate change. The Embassy of France, La Maison will be the host site for the international collections show. For tickets call 1 800 494 8497 or visit www.boxofficetickets.com

A partnership of independent fashion designers, producers and models, DCFASHIONWEEK creates increased economic development in the area of fashion design, clothing merchandising and modeling as well as enhances the visibility of the nation's capital as a center of international fashion. DC Fashion Week draws thousand of patrons to its shows. The complete week's show schedule is available on the company's website www.dcfashionweek.org.
